Understanding Childcare Funding: A Quick Guide for Parents

At Banana Moon Caterham, we know that understanding childcare funding can sometimes feel confusing. We want to make things as simple as possible for our families, so here is a quick overview of the government support options available to help with childcare costs.

15 Hours Free Childcare:

All children aged 3–4 years old are entitled to 15 hours of funded childcare per week during term time. This universal offer is available to all families and supports children’s early learning and development.

30 Hours Free Childcare for Working Parents:

Eligible working parents may be able to access up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week for children aged 9 months up to school age. This scheme is designed to support families who are balancing work and childcare.

Funded Childcare for Some Two-Year-Olds:

Some two-year-olds may also qualify for funded childcare depending on family circumstances or eligibility for certain benefits. This programme helps ensure children can access early learning opportunities from a young age.

Tax-Free Childcare:

Families may also benefit from Tax-Free Childcare, where for every £8 parents pay into a childcare account, the government adds £2, up to £2,000 per child per year to help with childcare costs.
